Researchers at Clemson University conducted a study of home sales and compared the results based on varying levels of landscape quality. Not only were type, size and condition of the plantings considered but also the overall design. Landscapers were rated "poor", "good", or "excellent". It seems that an important key is having the landscape design well before the sale of a house.

In 25 years, I can't recall many homeowners spending money to landscape just for a sale, but there were plenty who renovated the landscaping.

I recall one place not selling for 6 months, and after a landscape facelift, it sold the following weekend.
